Description of the project:
From February 2017 to May 2019, CANARI in partnership with the Centre for Resource Management and Environmental Studies of the University of the West Indies (UWI-CERMES) will implement a technical assistance project aimed at enhancing stakeholder education and participation in flyingfish fisheries governance and management. The project will target the islands of Barbados, Dominica, Grenada, Saint Lucia, Saint Vincent and the Grenadines, and Trinidad and Tobago, and contribute to achieving the component of the Strategic Action Programme for the Sustainable Management of the Shared Living Marine Resources of the Caribbean and North Brazil Shelf Large Marine Ecosystems aimed at enhancing the governance arrangements for implementing an ecosystem approach to flyingfish fisheries in the Caribbean and North Brazil Shelf Large Marine Ecosystems (CLME+ region).
The project, which has a budget of USD 146,908, is being done under contract to the Caribbean Regional Fisheries Mechanism (CRFM) as part of the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) Global Environment Facility (GEF) funded project Catalysing Implementation of the Strategic Action Programme for the Sustainable Management of shared Living Marine Resources int he Caribbean and North Brazil Shelf Large Marine Ecosystems (CLME + Project). The project is aimed at achieving the key results:
- Improved education and awareness-building of the National-intersectoral Committees (NICs) and Fisheries Advisory Committees (FACs), and
- Involvement of the full range of stakeholders in ecosystem approach to fisheries (EAF) management of the flyingfish fishery.
