The Caribbean Natural Resources Institute (CANARI) is a regional technical non-profit institute. CANARI is legally registered as a non-profit organisation in Barbados, Jamaica, Saint Lucia, St. Vincent and the Grenadines, the United States Virgin Islands and Trinidad and Tobago, with its headquarters in Trinidad. CANARI has charitable status in the USA and in Trinidad and Tobago.

What kind of work does CANARI do?
CANARI undertakes research, data-collection, analysis and advocacy on participatory natural resource planning and management. It facilitates multi-stakeholder dialogues for planning and policymaking; coaching, mentoring and training for communities, resource users, civil society organisations, local blue-green enterprises, and governments.
Where does CANARI work?
CANARI works across the Caribbean, with projects and programmes at local, national and regional levels. Its local and national work has mainly focused on the island countries and territories of the region. These include Antigua and Barbuda; The Bahamas; Dominica; Grenada; Haiti; Jamaica; Saint Kitts and Nevis; Saint Lucia; Saint Vincent and the Grenadines; and Trinidad and Tobago.

CANARI conducts grounded research, explores interlinkages and testing with partners to co-create knowledge and develop tools.

CANARI manages projects that promote equity, wellbeing and resilience in the sustainable management of natural resources by Civil Society Organisations and other community-based organisations.

Does CANARI give grants to communities?
CANARI provides small grants to stakeholders to complete community-based projects within the context of the projects it manages. CANARI may, at times, advertise Calls for Proposals under a specific programme or project on its website.
