Port of Spain, 27 June 2024 – In a concerted effort to strengthen the stewardship of protected areas in the Dominican Republic, five CEPF grantees are currently implementing projects aimed at revamping the management plans of key sites throughout the country. Management plans are crucial tools to ensure the long-term preservation of protected areas, as they not only outline conservation goals and provide a roadmap to achieve these goals, but they also help allocate funds efficiently, track progress and establish monitoring and evaluation protocols.

In developing these plans, the Fundación para el Mejoramiento Humano (Progressio Foundation), the Instituto Dominicano de Desarrollo Integral (IDDI), the Fundación de Apoyo del Suroeste (FUNDASUR), the Centre for the Conservation and Ecodevelopment of Samaná Bay and its Surroundings (CEBSE) and the Fundación CODESPA are working with key stakeholders of the protected areas to ensure that these plans are comprehensive, effective and widely supported.
