Port of Spain, July 5, 2024 – The Caribbean Natural Resources Institute (CANARI) has kicked off a series of community action planning workshops in Trinidad and Tobago to better understand increasing climate and disaster risks from coastal erosion, sea level rise and extreme weather events under the project, “Integrating digital technologies and participatory tools to support coastal community resilience in Trinidad and Tobago (Tech4CoastalResilience)”. The first of ten workshops were held in Moruga and Blanchisseuse, Trinidad on June 30 and July 3, 2024, to assess the two coastal communities’ priorities for action and build their resilience. The workshops brought together over 20 community participants each, including fisherfolk, rural women producers, tour operators and community-based organisations and representatives from community councils and key local and national government agencies in Trinidad.
This project is supported by the “Harnessing Innovative Technologies to Support Resilience Settlements on the Coastal Zones of the Caribbean (HIT RESET Caribbean)” programme. It is funded by the ACP Innovation Fund, OACPS Research and Innovation Programme, which is implemented by the Organization of African, Caribbean and Pacific States (OACPS) and financed by the European Union (EU).
