Lead strategic communications for one of the Caribbean’s most respected civil society organisations.
The Caribbean Natural Resources Institute (CANARI) is seeking a Senior Communications Officer. We are looking for a seasoned, visionary communicator who can elevate our voice, shape public narratives, and lead high-impact communication and advocacy across the region.
For 35 years, CANARI has championed equity and justice, resilience, biodiversity, sustainable livelihoods and participatory governance across the Caribbean. As the Institute continues to implement its Strategic Plan 2021-2030, we are looking for a leader who can amplify our work at local, regional and global levels.
What you will do
As Senior Communications Officer, you will:
- Manage and implement CANARI’s organisational Communications Strategy
- Oversee communication guidelines, templates, standards and systems
- Manage our website, social media presence, knowledge platforms and digital assets
- Co-develop and coordinate CANARI’s advocacy campaigns
- Lead content creation and editorial oversight for all organisational communication
- Develop, implement and evaluate communication and stakeholder engagement strategies for multiple projects
- Ensure high-quality communication products (publications, briefs, videos, reports, presentations, etc.)
- Manage relationships with media, designers, printers, videographers and consultants
- Provide communication capacity building for CANARI staff and partners
- Track, measure and report on communication performance and reach
Who you are
You are a communicator who brings:
- Strong strategic thinking and programme management skills
- Exceptional writing and editing abilities
- Deep understanding of digital media and communication for development
- Experience crafting campaigns and telling compelling sustainability stories
- An ability to lead, mentor and inspire
- Familiarity with Caribbean environmental, climate and governance issues
- A passion for justice, resilience and people-centred development
Qualifications
- Master’s degree in Communication, Journalism or Public Relations
- Training in Communication for Development
- A certificate in general or specialised editing
- 5-7 years’ experience in a similar position (civil society organisation or environmental sector an asset)
- Experience managing websites, online platforms, databases and digital communication systems
- Fluency in English; additional languages (Spanish, French, Creole) are an asset
