National workshops have been or will be held in each project country to build the capacity for participatory forest management that enhances the contribution of forests to sustainable livelihoods. The workshops target primarily community-based organisations (CBOs) and other non-governmental organisations (NGOs) working at the local level who are already or potentially involved in forest use and management.

The workshops are participatory and interactive and use a combination of facilitation techniques, such as mini-lectures, plenary discussions, focus groups, small group work, field trip, and panel discussion. They aim to draw on participants’ knowledge and experiences while introducing case studies, tools and methods from around the region. The workshops are facilitated by CANARI with assistance from local trainers (based within the project countries) who participated in the Training of Trainers in Participatory Forest Management Workshop held in August 2007
