Candice Ramkissoon is a Senior Technical Officer at CANARI; she works extensively on Disaster Risk Reduction (DRR) and Management; Environmental and Natural Resources Management; and specialist skills in Geographic Information Systems (GIS).

Candice has a diverse science and technology background, offering more than ten years’ practical experience and expertise in the aforementioned areas. She also has significant national and regional expertise in areas relevant to disaster resilience including participatory vulnerability assessments, implementation of community-based and ecosystem-based DRR, involvement in DRR and climate change planning and policy-making and related capacity building.

In her work at CANARI, Candice also plays a key role in developing and piloting participatory information and communication technology (ICT) tools for integrating local knowledge in to resilience building actions, digital storytelling using GIS-based StoryMaps and helps lead development of online knowledge platforms to showcase CANARI’s work and that of wider Caribbean civil society.

Candice feels most energised doing meaningful work that helps both people and protection of the environment. She has a special interest in exploring the linkages between risk reduction, environmental management and sustainable development. She is passionate about promoting more ecosystem-based approaches to DRR and incorporating GIS to support this work.

Candice has an MSc in Geoinformatics, 2011; and a BSc in Environmental and Natural Resources Management & Entrepreneurship, 2006, from the University of the West Indies, St Augustine
