Case study of the Caribbean Natural Resources Institute (CANARI)
We are pleased to announce the publication of a case study of CANARI, produced with funding support from the International Institute for Environment and Development and the John D. and Catherine T. MacArthur Foundation. The case study, entitled “Thirty Years in support of participatory natural resource management: the experience of the Caribbean Natural Resources Institute”, documents the evolution of the organisation, the contributions it has made to policy and practice in participatory natural resource management in the region, and the methods it has used to do so.
The case study includes both self-analysis and feedback from key individuals and organisations involved in CANARI projects at various stages of its history. It concludes with a summary of lessons learned and conclusions, which will be of interest not only to other Caribbean civil society organisations but also to donors, policy makers and technical agencies. The case study also includes an Appendix outlining CANARI’s internal management practices and policies, which is targeted specifically to other civil society organisations that share the complex challenge of running an effective non-profit organisation in the Caribbean.
The case study is available electronically [Click Here]. Hard copies are also available on request to Kwesi Dennis at kwesi@canari.org. We would welcome your feedback on the case study, which can also be sent to kwesi@canari.org.
